Welcome to Kindergarten
Welcome to Ms. Carr’s Kindergarten class at St. John Neumann Catholic School. Kindergarten is an exciting time for our youngest students as they begin to become part of the elementary school community. We are blessed that you are here!
Meet Ms. Carr
Ms. Carr has been around the education profession for a long time, but not always in a teaching position. She has taught 4 year-olds at Kindercare, was an assistant to blind twins, was an office assistant at Karns Intermediate, a teaching assistant in 1st/2nd grades in California, and substituted in grades K-6. She taught 1st and 3rd in California for three years before moving back to Tennessee. Ms. Carr feels it was God’s hand that led her to SJNCS. It did not exist when she lived in Tennessee the first time.
Ms. Carr is in her 12th year at St. John Neumann. She taught 3rd for six years, 1st for one year, and 2nd for three years, and this is her second year in Kindergarten. No matter what grade she teaches, she loves to bring her creativity and love of learning into the classroom. Ms. Carr loves teaching at SJN because she appreciates the faith-filled family atmosphere where she gets to be an integral part of helping each student grow their faith and achieve their highest individual potentials.
Ms. Carr has two grown sons, Matt, who lives in Las Vegas, NV, and Joshua, who lives in Castro Valley, CA. She is blessed to have six grandkids.
What We're Learning This Year
*Faith formation includes Mass 2x a week, reading at Mass, bringing up gifts, in school faith retreats, and learning about our Catholic faith.
*Topics in math include: sorting, counting, graphing, classifying, patterning, time and money, measurement and even addition and subtraction.
*We use Superkids Reading Program. The students will do many activities to help them learn their letters, sounds, and blending words. They will also do lots of writing activities. It is very helpful if you can read with your child 20 minutes each day. They love to show off what new things they are learning and any practice only strengthens their new skills.
*Special areas include: technology, art, p.e., music, Spanish, and library.
*Homework is assigned monthly.
Friday Folders come home each Friday. Please check and clean out your child’s Friday Folder each week.
