Welcome to Middle School

Meet Dr. Caldwell

Dr. Caldwell is a Knoxville native and graduate of both St. Joseph and Knoxville Catholic High School (2003). He graduated from Maryville College in 2008 with a degree in English before enlisting in the Army. During his four years with the 3-15 Infantry Battalion, he served as a combat medic and completed one combat tour in Anbar Province, Iraq.

While serving, he earned his MA in Teaching from the University of the Cumberlands in 2013. He then stepped out of the military and into the classroom. He came St. John Neumann after teaching English in public schools in both Georgia and Tennessee. He also earned his doctorate in educational leadership in 2018 from the University of the Cumberlands.

Dr. Caldwell believes that all children can and should succeed academically while growing in virtue. His teaching philosophy is founded on the idea that the purpose of education is to grow intellectually, spiritually, and physically.

Dr. Caldwell met his wife, Jennifer, in 2009; they married in 2010 and have two daughters at St. John Neumann. When he’s not looking into new ways to engage students in the classroom, Dr. Caldwell enjoys reading, gaming, and riding his motorcycle.
