Welcome to Middle School
Meet Mr. Shaffer
Mr. Brett Shaffer was born in Long Beach, California. Growing up in a Navy family, he lived in many locations including Okinawa and Puerto Rico. He credits his interest in Science to the opportunities he was given and the experiences he had growing up. When his family settled in Knoxville, his parents started a rock and mineral shop in town. Now, Mr. Shaffer enjoys his own hobby as a mineral collector.
Mr. Shaffer has a Master’s Degree from UT in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Science Education. Although he spent several years in a classroom from 1987-1991, he also spent time as a geologist working for Dames and Moore, the State Water Well Program, as well as Waste Management for the state DOE oversight. In 1993 he met his wife, Teresa at Sacred Heart. In 1994, they were married and have 3 children.
Mr. Shaffer became a part of the SJN family in 2001 and has served as the 6th-8th grade Science teacher since. This year, he is also teaching technology for 5th and 6th grades. Mr. Shaffer enjoys working with the SJN students and says that he is proud of the respectful nature of our student body. He loves serving God as a ministry and hopes to encourage his students to do the same!
